Staff The ICE Program will be staffed by three certificated teachers for the 2008-09 school year. Marci will continue this year, focusing on Elementary math/history, Middle Level math, and High School history, English and sailing. We welcome Luke Snyder to our Math and Occupational Education program and Daniel Molotsky to our K-8 program. Daniel will also teach selected secondary classes. Darlene will be on Sabbatical Leave and will return in September, 2009.
Marci began the ICE Program in 1992, after starting our sister program in Chimacum, the Pi Program, with which we share her time. Marci has been teaching in contract-based education for over 25 years and is as enthusiastic about experiential and expeditionary learning as when she began. She specializes in Environmental Sciences, Social Studies, and the Puget Sound Explorers Sailors Arts class, but loves to teach it all.
Luke is joining us this year from Port Townsend High School where he taught Industrial Arts. Luke is certified to offer Career-Technical credits and will be providing didactic math and science classes for high school students.
Daniel spent the last 12 years teaching at Blue Heron Middle School. Before this he spent a year in Tanzania teaching in an international school. He also worked as a resource teacher at Mountain View Elementary for three years. His hobbies include kayaking, hiking, biking, making music, reading, and writing. But his current favorite activity is spending time with his three young children.
Darlene came to education from business and industry and has been a part of alternative learning experience programs since 1989. She joined the ICE Program in October 1996. Darlene regularly maintains the documentation end of the program, keeping up with current rules and regulations. She especially enjoys teaching middle level literacy and math classes, elementary day, foreign languages, technology, and K-12 Language Arts. On Sabbatical during the 2008-09 school year, Darlene will be exploring educational practices in various schools around Europe from October until March. Follow Darlene's Journey this year on her web-blog at
