Read Across America

Each March schools across America celebrate the birthday of Theodor Suess Geisel - better known as Dr. Seuss - and the many books he wrote that have enriched children's literature and become a staple in reading classrooms nationwide. Back in 1998, the National Educational Association began the idea of having a "Read Across America" Day to celebrate his birthday - March 2nd. Schools participate in a variety of ways, and you can learn more about how NEA still supports schools through this event by clicking here.

At Grant Street School, we celebrate with a special day of learning where many classrooms conduct all-day read-ins (in our pajamas!), collaborate with other classrooms for shared reading, bring in special guests to read our favorite Dr. Seuss books aloud, or many other activities and learning opportunities.

Below are some photographs from March 2, 2007 at Grant Street School.
