The PT High School Sailing Club had a regatta in Orcas Island last weekend. Nine teams sailing twenty V-15's braved the cold weather on West Sound and 14 races were completed in light to moderate breeze under threatening skies. It looked like a good time was had by all.
Port Townsend had 8 racers at Orcas and placed 13th out of 20 and 15th out of 20. We are continuing to move up through the pack and are off to a great season.

About 65 youth sailors, representing 9 high schools, converged on the Port Townsend waterfront for the 2nd Annual PT Open. Competitors filled 15 boats to race in sunny, warm conditions with a gentle 5-10 knot breeze out of the North. Port Townsend Sailing Team fielded 3 teams, and faired well with finishes of 10th, 5th and 3rd places. Led by Team Captain Alyce Flanagan, sailors were challenged by tricky currents and windshifts of up to 30 degrees. The Pope Marine Building was packed with teams milling about, and the dock was jammed with spectators. The grill was cranking out burgers and hotdogs, as sailors worked up quite an appetite and thirst on the water. Congratulations to District Champion North Kitsap High School for winning yet another event this year. Port Townsend took 3, 4 and 10th overall.
A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers that made the event possible, filling every role from Race Committee to Grillmeister. Like last year, a good time was had by all and the kids, coaches and adults were all excited to return next year. Graduating Senior Meghan McDonald sailed her last high school regatta and will be missed!
