PTHS Career & Technical Education

Where academics meet the world of career and work.

The Career and Technical Education Department at Port Townsend High School offers students a wide range of exploratory and preparatory courses to help develop the critical skills needed to compete successfully in the 21st century.    Whether it’s creating a fine miter joint in Carpentry, exploring the basics of a two cycle engine in Automotive Technology, learning to protect a sprained ankle in Sports Medicine, or balancing the company books in Accounting,  CTE provides real world skills and experience to Port Townsend High School Students.

Classroom  activities are only one component of CTE at PTHS.  Business students have opportunities to gain  business experience through the FBLA  Otis Spunkmeyer cookie business.   Video Production classes broadcast sports and school events to the community in partnership with PTTV.   Sports Medicine students work along side coaches and trainers giving support to athletes in the field or on the court.   Students can also earn credit on their jobs through Work Based Learning.

The CTE Department also provides opportunities for college credit through the Tech Prep Program.  Students successfully completing  Diversified Occupations, Business Communications,  Accounting, Computer Applications,  Yearbook, Video Productions,  Photography & Digital Imaging, or Advanced Media can earn up to 5 quarter credits per class at Peninsula College based on their work at PTHS.

CTE courses at PTHS include:  Diversified Occupations,  Health/Career & Life Studies,  Jewelry Manufacturing,  Carpentry, Yearbook,  Sports Medicine,  Computer Applications,  Business Communications, Accounting, Video Production,  Photography & Digital Imaging, and Advanced Media.
