Science Department

The goal of the Science Department at Port Townsend High School is to provide students with relevant science experiences that foster critical thinking, and real life problem solving skills.  The ninth and tenth grade curriculum is designed as a two year continuum where concepts of physics, chemistry, biology and life science are integrated to prepare students for advanced study in science as well as to equip students with basic science knowledge and skills for life.

Chemistry, and Physics with advanced offerings of Honors Chemistry and Advanced Placement Physics respectively, are offered on alternate years to facilitate scheduling, as well as to maximize effectiveness of instruction and use of materials. All of these classes meet the admission requirement of four-year universities for algebra based lab science.  In addition to the traditional offerings of Chemistry and Physics, Environmental Studies is offered for advanced study of human impact on the environment and how it can be made more sustainable.

Please see the following course descriptions for complete descriptions of each class.
