PTHS Track Results 2008

April 9 at Bremerton and April 11 at Peninsula

Because of the weather condition just prior to spring break, the PTHS track team competed in 2 league meets this week.  Wednesday, April 9th, the team traveled to Bremerton in a double-dual competition between Bremerton and Port Angeles.  Both Boys and Girls lost to both teams, yet scored some personal best though the weather was still were not conducive towards great running. Team scores were Bremerton 87, PA 87, and PT 45 for the boys and PA 102, Bremerton 48, and PT 39 for the girls.

Personal best were Storm Harder in the 110 HH, boys 4x400 relay, Makail Maduska recorded 3 personal best in shot, discus, and javelin, while Charlie Young threw the javelin for a personal best as well.  On the girls side, Jenny Grauberger ran a personal best in the 100 meter dash and teammate Cecily Rennie and Yolande Smith picked up a pair of personal records in the 200 meters.  The girls 4x100 and 4x400 PR’ed as well.

Our girl throwers, Samantha Shinners and Magnolia Stacey recorded personal best in the discus and javelin respectively.

On Friday the team traveled to Peninsula, again competing against 3A schools.  Team scores were slightly better on the girls side beating Olympic but falling to Peninsula.  The boys struggled abit team wise losing to both Peninsula and Olympic, but maintained Redskin pride by recording numerous personal records.  Cameron Johnson and Makail Maduska ran personal best in the 100 meter dash, while Bereket Piatt ran a blazing 4:41 in the 1600 meter, a near 20 second PR.  Other personal best were by Jaydee Dodd, Justin Mydland, Austin Plouse, Justin Boland, Zach Parker, and Jonas Rankins.  The girls ran, jumped and threw extremely well with PR’s from Kathryn Atkinson, Kerri Evalt, Khloe Frank, Jenny Grauberger, Emily Kunz, Ella Piatt, Cecily Rennie, Liya Rubio, and Jenny Lorecki.  This meet we loaded up the athletes with additional events if they were able. Quinton Decker ran the 800, 1600, 3200, and the 4 x400 relay.  Others did the same taking on an extra event trying something new and hoping to gain additional points for the team.

Overall PT is right on track as we continue to get run faster, throw further, and jump higher and longer.  Looking back the team acquired 52 personal records for the week.  Our goal is to get better within our own abilities and strengths.  Track and field is such a rewarding sport because athletes can gain personal satisfaction knowing that they are improving their athletic ability and bolstering self confidence.

March 22 - Bremerton Relay

Port Townsend competed along with 14 other schools, Saturday, March 22nd in the Bremerton Relays. Participating schools were 2A, 3A, and 4A from around the Puget Sound area and included one Oregon school. Although it was only our second meet of the season, Townsend’s athletes rose to the occasion in a number of events. The weather was perfect, for March, and set the stage for numerous personal records. Over half of our athletes brought home ribbons awarded them in the top 8 places. Our athletes were able to see other high school runners, throwers, and jumpers helping us gain a higher respect for the sport and the need for diligent of day-to-day training.

Although some of our first year athletes experience those “pre-race” jitters competing against more experience athletes, they responded well by doing their best and exhibiting a growing self-confidence. We look forward to a more casual meet this Friday at Bremerton with Bremerton and Port Angeles.

Events winners were Storm Harder in the 300 I. Hurdles, Chloe Frank 800 meters, Brittany Bolling, Cecily Rennie, Kerri Evalt, Chloe Frank in the 4x400 meter relay.  Khloe Frank is the Track Athlete of the Week
