PTA Meeting
2/05/08
Financial
Treasurer Amy Khile shares that the PT PTA fit in the top 250 schools across the country for e-script contributions. This qualifies us for an additional $1000 donation direct from Safeway.
e-Script— PTA is planning a competition among classes to see how many folks can be signed up. Kids will get a ticket for every person that they sign up, with a drawing to be held for an iPod. Kids who sign up the most new subscribers (but at least eight people) will get the grand prize in addition to the chance at the drawing.
Grants to GS/MV Teachers:
1st grade to Moore Theater- Frog and Toad- PTA funds $21 per child for admission to the theater. Other costs to be paid from class monies and parent donations. Approved
School-wide GS Young Authors Conference— Published author will make a whole school presentation, then kids break into small groups that are taught by teachers and EAs, group according to the Bonnie Campbell Hill assessment levels. Kids will also go to share their published writing with others. PT PTA approves $1360 to fund an author, an illustrator, pencils and other supplies
Kindergarten- Listening Center Stuff. PT PTA agrees to purchase two listening centers for the two classrooms that don't have current equipment. Cost is $1521. Question asked— If it’s a curriculum requirement then why is PTA paying for it? Not much money in the building budget, technology is a lower priority.
Grant Street requests funding for scholarships for 2nd quarter Wednesday Afternoons— Books rock, Rec, swimming, Twisters. Partial scholarships for 12 students. $240 Approved.
Grant Street requests the purchase of a small set of books that Consultant Libby Correll suggested tas resources for teachers to use for teaching writing. Books are mentor texts- show kids examples of reasons that authors write. Total cost is $120. Approved

How do we get Grandparents in Idaho to sign up and designate MV? Cousins in Texas? Family anywhere? Mr. Brou offered to send info out again with the newsletter.
The PT PTA met at Grant Street on October 2nd. At this meeting several important decisions were made:
Fundraising Activities for 2007-2008 will include:

Teachers Mary Sepler and Diane Frame presented on reading instruction and assessment at Grant Street and Mountain View.
Several grants were awarded to classes for periodical subscriptions, field trips, and being considered is the funding of class trips to the Marine Science Center.

MV PTSA Provides Storytellers for our Community
On February 22nd Joe and Paula McHugh entertained us with their presentation, Shakin' Down the Acorns. With the help of the Grant Street PTA and Mountain View PTSA the storytellers performed at both schools during the day and then performed in the Mountain View Gym on Tuesday evening.
At each show Joe and Paula shared folk tales, tall tales, ghost tales, and some humorous tales. They also played music and shared their "slapjack" dancing man and the highly-popular three-legged chicken! Around a hundred children and adults attended the performance on Thursday evening. PTSA moms also sold baked goods and the new line of Cougar Wear.
Need a new Cougar shirt? They'll be available at the Mountain View Art Show and Science Fair scheduled for February 27th. PTSA next meets at 6:30 on March 6, 2007. Everyone is welcome— Hope to see you there!
