Teacher Report

Teacher Report!

Thank you to the enrichment committee and all the parents who helped out with the Indianola field trip.  A lot of work went in to making this a successful trip.

MT View’s Jog – a – Thon is coming

up soon!  Please start collecting pledges for the number of laps your child will run.  This is an important fundraiser for OPEPO, and helps to fund our field trips!

Welcome new 1st year student Sophia Easely to OPEPO.  Sophia is replacing Sophia Shoot whose family felt their daughter was not ready for OPEPO.

Math and Science:

Math information meeting for volunteers and others who are interested will be 3:40 till 4:30 on Monday, October 13!

Thanks to our parent volunteers who will start next week!  Tues 9:20 = Dave N and Nathalie, 11:05 = Nathalie, Anne K and Eileen; Thurs 9:20 = Mike, Kate and Nancy, Friday 9:20 = Nathalie and Mary C.  More to be scheduled!

Blue Jays Have observed their growing brassica plants, and have helped to create our October calendar.  They have been practicing the counting on strategy for adding 1, 2 and 3.  They’ve learned a game called “+1 (or +2 or +3) war” to help them become fluent with counting on.  Ask them to play with you at home!

Robins Have created a 10,000 chart to help them to conceptualize how much 10,000 represents, and to become aware of and internalize the patterns our place value system follows.  Come in and check it out!  4th and 5th years have been playing a place value card game called “close to 1,000” that should help students with mental math abilities. Ask them to show you how to play!  3rd years have been working on addition with re-grouping.

Literacy:  I am ready to begin having volunteers next week for Blue Jays.  Based on the list from Soozie here is what I have scheduled:  Eileen Tuesdays 9:15-10:45, Jolie Wednesday 10:00-11:00, Carla Thursday 9:15-10:45 and Rosanna Fridays TBA

Blue Jays-  You should have seen a permission slip for your child to participate in the Read to Rover program. We will begin next Thursday.

Robins- Literature Circles will be starting soon.  Look for more information next week.
