Kurt Munich is trying to get some pick-up games going for the summer (softball, basketball, etc.), and thought a good place to start would be the next 3 Mondays, after school, on the Mountain View playground court for some basketball.  All are welcome.  Parents are encouraged to play, too!  Kurt plans on being there until 5:00ish.

Message from teacher Karmen: “If you are planning to attend the volunteer luncheon in the library on June 2 please RSVP to Donna Benson 379-4530 by Friday May 29. She needs to know for planning purposes.  I hope to see many of you there.”

Friday Letter:

Please send information, OPEPO related news, and upcoming events to: fridayletter@gmail.com or call Gina Johnston at 821-1360 by Wednesday afternoon. Note: There is no Friday Letter on the week of Parent Meetings!

Teacher Report

THANK YOU Alison, Amanda and Dana for creating those amazing, stunning book covers for the children’s research reports.  What an important way to show that their hard work is honored!

Library books- Please help your child return any library or classroom books.  Everything was due back today. We are told to withhold report cards until families either return books or pay for them.  The following students still have books out:  Lydia Jane, Pierre, Veda, Zain, Tessa, Rowan, Tao, Nora, Allie, Carmen, Max M, Jesse N, Wren, Ava, Isaac, Skylar, Morgan.

Inquiry

The kids are now synthesizing their research notes into a rough drafts. We could still use some more volunteer helpers to help students with this process.  Times are Monday and Thursday from 11:00 till 11:30, and Tuesday from 1:50 till about 3:00!

Hopefully everyone has started their final homework project by now. This project will be presented at our U.S. history fair, which will be held on June 15.  Participation is not optional; rather it is a required part of our curriculum!

Literacy

Thank you to Laura and Eva for coming through on typing children’s published pieces.  We are now almost all caught up.  There is more typing to be done if anyone has some time.  Check with Karmen first before you come.

Please look for those blue and white striped book bags around your house and return any that you find.

Blue Jays said their farewell to Zeeke, the Read to Rover dog, who visited us on Thursdays this year.  We presented him and his owner Melanie with letters and homemade doggie biscuits.

It is important for your child to be reading daily at home in order to make the progress we would like to see.  Please find time in your busy schedules for your child to read for 15-20 minutes daily.

Math/Science-

We are STILL looking to borrow a few scales and measuring cups for the next couple of weeks.  Metric or US standard are both fine.  Kitchen-type scales would be best – the kind that show ounces and grams as well as pounds and kilograms.  Please bring these labeled with your family’s name, and give them to Lisa.  A few gallon jugs would be useful as well, rinsed out, please!  We will use these to develop and refine our measurement skills.  Thank You! MONDAY would be great to receive these!

MARKET is coming up this Thursday, about 1:30 till about 2:30! Please help your child bring in their supplies at the beginning of the day, unless they are live animals.  Petting Zoo animals should arrive after lunch!   Please plan on shopping!
